Three Red Crowns, formed as a trio in 2009, has since expanded to a nine piece ensemble and combines the most exciting and catchy aspects of jazz, classical, and rock, playing the epic, exhilarating compositions of founding members John Paul Carillo and Anna Meadors. In This Light, the group’s first album, was completed in 2012 at Mobtown Studios with Mat Leffler-Schulman, and has been played by radio host Sam Sessa on Baltimore’s 89.7 WTMD, New Music USA’s online station Counterstream Radio, and featured on 88.1 WYPR’s The Signal with Lisa Morgan. The track “Second Crown,” is featured on Flying Dog Brewery’s CD compilation, Flying Dog Music, Vol 1, Baltimore. Three Red Crowns is currently working on its follow up album, If Three Was Eight; the opening track “Landhorse” was included in Baltimore City Paper’s Local Music Playlist in the Big Music Issue (July 31, 2013). In September 2014, they were the ensemble-in-residence at University of North Carolina at Greensboro and performed on the New Music Greensboro series.
