Big Hoax is an alternative folk band with members roots stretching all over Maryland. In the 2015 Tiny Desk Concert Contest, Big Hoax was featured as a handpicked honorable mention for their live performance of their song "Over and Over" out of over 8,000 band submissions nationally. From upstate New York to Nashville, TN, Big Hoax has played over 120 shows in 2014, including shows sharing the bill with many notable, nationally-touring artists like The Steel Wheels, The Last Bison, Donna The Buffalo, The Streets of Laredo, Kingsley Flood, and more. The secret ingredient to their sound being their contagious energy and Alexander's deliberate instigative songwriting.
In a Q&A from FrederickPlaylist.com, Luke explained: “I write a lot of music that sends a message-I preach to myself in my lyrics quite often. People hear these messages and it creates community...It fires people up, especially when performed live.”
Big Hoax has currently released a debut EP “Open.”, mastered by distinguished recording engineer Frank Marchand of Hudson Street Sound. Big Hoax is in the works of recording its first full length album, which is anticipated for release in Fall 2015.
Big Hoax is known for its big live sound, dancy alt-folk ballads, and ability to turn a room full of strangers into a space full of friends that simply haven’t met yet.
