Immersed in the hip hop subculture of the 1980s, AJ Naylor a.k.a. DJ
TwoTeks taught himself how to cut and scratch on Technics 1200s by
mimicking the sounds of DJ Jazzy Jeff, Eric B, and Jam Master Jay.
From there, he studied VHS tapes by the Invisible Scratch Pickles, DJ
Qbert, and DMC World DJ Championships competitions to refine his beat
juggling skills.
In the 1990s, he was featured on rap albums of local artists in
Frederick, MD, and released a series of mixtapes. In 2002, DJ TwoTeks
attended class at Scratch DJ Academy in New York City, NY and further
honed his skillset by studying under DJ I.Emerge, DJ Evil Dee, Rob
Swift, Mista Sinista, and Neil Armstrong. He started out as a battle
DJ, and has been scratching and beat juggling for the majority of his
career.
DJ TwoTeks does limit himself to any particular genre of sub-genre of
music, which is evident his sets and digital music collection. He has
DJ'd at venues in San Diego, CA; Washington, DC; Frederick and
Baltimore, MD; Boston, MA; and New York City, NY alongside DJ Craze,
DJ Qbert, Biz Markie and Sharkey. Currently, he is the resident DJ of
a monthly party held in downtown Frederick.
