Cascading Elephants is the moniker of experimental electronica artist Ben Parker. The project was formed in Baltimore during the summer of 2012, shortly after Ben parted ways with a local band. Frustrated with the sonic limitations of a standard rock band (guitar, bass and drums), Ben began experimenting with synthesizers, samplers and unconventional recording methods in an effort to explore his fascination with electronic sound manipulation.
On January 8 2016, after releasing several demo albums over the course of four years, Cascading Elephants self released a proper debut album titled Hectic Matter. Influenced by the wild, psychedelic and often chaotic music of Animal Collective, Oneohtrix Point Never and Dan Deacon, Hectic Matter possesses a variety of unique sonic qualities. The album was well received by critics was followed by a regional tour during the spring and summer.
Time is Fire is a band that could only come out of Washington DC. Rooted in DC's post-punk scene but reaching out to embrace rhythms from Africa, the Middle East, Latin America and beyond, the group summons a kaleidoscopic sound that knows no borders-- a blast of radio distortion from a country that doesn't exist.
Fronted by an Iranian-born Sufi poet and backed by players steeped in punk, dance and experimental music, Time is Fire mixes pan-cultural rhythms, floor-shaking funk grooves and acid-laced guitar leads into a mind-expanding geopolitical dance party.
